Beware the tobacco companies and their propaganda
An article published on truthandliesexposed.com brought up a very valid point. The tobacco companies obviously aren't going to like the rising popularity of electronic cigarettes, and thus will more than likely fight on every front to save their ailing businesses, especially in the face of what is somewhat of a revelation for smokers.
Who can blame them though? Tax rises, smoking bans, display restrictions - they've been hit with a sledgehammer from all sides, and the businesses these people have spent their lives building are literally crumbling in front of them. I almost feel sorry for them - if they weren't selling an addictive drug.
Back to the article then. Apparently the American Lung Association has
...all but flat-out told smokers to continue to smoke instead of trying an electronic cigarette to control their nicotine cravings.
The ALA bases their recommendation on a “lack of data” and “only one study being available”. However, there are 11 documented clinical studies on electronic cigarettes that they have failed to take note of. They have chosen to only recognize the study done last year by the FDA. Even though the FDA’s study showed nearly identical ingredients to currently approved smoking cessation products, the ALA wants to keep smokers away from e-cigs until more studies are done.
In fact, it is already documented that an electric cigarette is 1,400 times safer than tobacco cigarettes. Still, the ALA blindly leads smokers away, encouraging them to return to their deadly devices.http://www.truthandliesexposed.com/electronic-cigarette-american-lung-association/
So are the FDA being pressured by the tobacco behemoths? It's more than likely, for reasons stated above. Be sure to read the article - it's only a short one, but full of insight.
Of course, it's best to not ignore the facts - e-cigs aren't widely tested, but they do seem logical enough, and with much less chemicals they are likely the lesser of two evils here.
